This handout will cover:
1. Why use digital images?
2. Key terms and concepts
3. Hardware and software needed for digital imaging
4. How to use a digital camera
5. How to store and retrieve digital images
6. How to prepare images for publication
Why use digital
images in your
publication?
• Digital images are avail-
able immediately. ere is
no wait for film processing.
• Digital images can be
viewed just after they are
taken on the camera’s LCD
screen. You can shoot until
you get the image you want.
• Digital images are often
of better quality than those
taken with typical film
cameras.
• Creative elements and
special effects can be added
to digital images with
Photoshop.
• Digital images can be
placed into the page layout
and precisely cropped.
• You will save money since
there is no more film and
processing costs.
• Students will gain valuable
new skills.
