COPYRIGHT
2001 CANON INC. CANOSCAN D1230U/D2400U REV.0 MAR. 2001 PRINTED IN JAPAN (IMPRIME AU JAPON)
C. FARE (Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement)
1. Outline
FAU-S13 attached to D2400U employs an infrared LED in addition to the FAU lamp (cold
cathode fluorescent lamp) in order to remove scratches and dirt on a film by transmitting a film
by two light sources. This system is called FARE (Film Automatic Retouching and
Enhancement).
The infrared LED scans only scratches and dirt on a film as image data. This image data is
compared to the full image data scanned by the FAU lamp, and the overlapping data of
scratches and dirt is subtracted, then this area is compensated for by sampling the ambient
data. Accordingly, the image without scratches and dirt is reproduced.
