Using the Built-in Flash
You can use the built-in flash for recording still images.
1. Press the (flash) button.
The setting changes with each press of the button.
The symbol of the selected flash mode appears on the screen. “ ” disappears after
4 seconds.
2. Press the PHOTO button halfway.
The flash automatically rises.
•” ” appears in green.
3. Press the PHOTO button fully.
The flash fires and the still image shown on the screen will be recorded.
4. After use, return the flash to the body by pressing the flash down.
Do not return the flash while it is firing.
Do not fire the flash close to people’s eyes.
Do not fire the flash at persons while they are driving.
Do not fire the flash with the flash bulb covered with your hand.
The practical range of the flash is approx. 1 to 2.8 m.
The camcorder fires a pre-flash to obtain the subject’s exposure data and
adjusts the main flash to the optimal intensity (flash exposure compensation).
The effect of flash photography may not be obtained in bright places.
For the red-eye reduction mode to be effective, the subject needs to look at
the assist-lamp. The degree of reduction depends upon the distance and on
each individual.
The red-eye reduction mode cannot be used in stitch assist mode.
The flash mode cannot be selected when exposure is locked, or after the first
still image in Stitch Assist mode.

(auto) The flash fires automatically according to the brightness
of the subject.
(red-eye reduction, auto)
The flash fires automatically according to the brightness
of the subject, and the assist lamp lights up to reduce the
red-eye effect.
(flash on) The flash always fires.
(flash off) The flash does not fire. Use this setting in places where
flash photography is prohibited.
